Can I make sure that I don’t see stories containing certain content?
We’ve recently added a Content Warning system to Inkitt! If there is certain content that you don’t want to see, you can filter Inkitt so that those topics will not be shown to you in our search results or on our discovery page.
You can choose which Content Warnings you don’t want to see from your settings page, and you can update this at any time. To make sure that you don’t see a specific topic in a certain place, add the tags to the section where you want them hidden from.
For example, if you don’t want to be shown stories that include Assault, you would make sure tag “Assault” is added under “Hide stories with these tags from the discovery page.” If you don’t want it in search results, you should make sure that the tag is added to the “Hide stories with these tags from search” section.
How do I know what warnings a story has?
Content warnings will be shown to you in a couple of different places.
Discovery Screen / Search Listings / Author Profiles
When you’re browsing discovery, looking through search results, or looking at books on an author’s profile, there will be a flag under the genres which shows that content warnings apply to the story.
To see the specific warnings, hover over the content warnings label and a full list will display.
When opening the book
When you open a story for the first time, Content Warning tags will be shown above the Summary, so that you can see the tags and the summary before deciding to read any further.
What if I find a story that is missing the right warnings?
If you find that a story is missing the appropriate content warnings, you can flag it using the report system.
When you click Report on a story, in addition to the normal report options, you will also be able to choose “Suggest Tag.”
Choosing this option will bring up a list of tags for you to choose from. This will then be sent to our Content Guidelines team to review, and if it’s found to be needed, the tag will be added.
